NIGER STATE GOVERNMOR KURE DISCONNECTS MINISTRIES FROM NITEL LINES

Worried by the high level of indebtedness to NITEL by the Niger State government, the state Governor, Engineer Abdulkadri Kure has ordered all state ministries to be disconnected from NITEL. Giving the directive recently, the state he said, said that no government organisation should be spared. The order, which extends to the Government House, also said the seat of power in the state should be disconnected from the outside world, as other government organisations cannot be reached from the Government House by its workers.

Government, according to sources close to Daily Trust, wants to maintain financial discipline as the amount of telephone bills incurred by government official was unacceptable. However, the government instructed NITEL to leave out the permanent secretary’s line in the Government House. Meanwhile, the press secretary, protocol and other units in the Government House have been disconnected. The decision was taken at a recent meeting by the governor and some of his officials when the former learnt about the high level of debts owed NITEL.
