* Marten Pieters has been appointed the new CEO of Tanzania’s TTCL. Prior to his appointment, Marten Pieters was a member of KNP’s Executive Board, where he was responsible for the IP/Data division called Business Solutions, handling many international activities, which included Board positions on mobile and fixed line companies in emerging and developed economies.

* In the first of what is expected to be many US and Malaysian departures from Telkom, chief financial officer Anthony Lewis is to leave the listed telecommunications firm and return to part owner SBC Communications. Lewis, who led Telkom’s financial team through its listing on the JSE Securities Exchange SA and the New York Stock Exchange, is expected to be replaced by a South African, although candidates are still being identified.

* South African Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri has announced the new Board members for the .za Domain Name Authority. They are: Preeta Bhagattjee, Sonwabo Eddie Funde, Dr Hasmukh Gajjar, Richard Heath, Xoliswa Kakana, Alan Levy, Nomvula Ethel Mbangela, Mike Silber and Victor Wilson.

* Johnnic Communications announced the appointment of a CEO to head its expansion into new markets on the African continent. He is Brian Pottinger, 50, former Editor and Publisher of the Sunday Times and currently MD of BDFM Publishers, the business media associate of Johnnic Communications.
