ERICSSON AND NIGERIA’S RELTEL SIGN US$145M CONTRACT

Ericsson and Reliance Telecommunications Limited (RelTel) have announced a CDMA2000 1X contract valued at $145 million to deploy a nation-wide wireless network in Nigeria.President of Ericsson Mobile CDMA Systems, Mr. Ake Persson said deployment will soon begin with an expected commercial launch in the first half of year 2003.

The contract for Ericsson’s total CDMA2000 solution includes the supply of 1900 MHz compact radio base stations; base stations controllers; packet core network; mobile switching centers; Home Location Registers; a suite of applications such as Pre-paid, Short Message Service and Voice Mail Service; and a full portfolio of services including training and network rollout. Ericsson will also provide managed services for two years as part of the contract with RelTel.
