According to The Vanguard, the new management contractors for the Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) Pentascope is to inject over N120 billion into the national carrier within the next three years. Also, the Federal Government had secured an assurance from Pentascope that no worker of NITEL will be sacked as a result of the new management.

According to the chair of NITEL Board, Dr. Aneze Chiwuba, addressing Zonal Management staff and workers of the establishment from the South-East Zone of the country:"the agreement with Pentascope is to move forward for the good of all. The agreement doesn’t mean NITEL will fold up or there would be job cut. The agreement means that NITEL will be given a further boost and it will do better. It will interest you that Pentascope plans to spend US$900 or about N120 billion within the three years and that means that NITEL will move forward."

"Pentascope will only come in with 22 to 25 staff. That means all of you will be here, no white man will take your jobs you can be rest assured." He said:"why we are undertaking this is to assure you and to let you know that your responsibility should be. It was very explicit in the Memorandum of Understanding that there will be no retrenchment except if there is a disciplinary record and that will go through due process."

An Executive Director with NITEL, Hajia Hadita Aliu who stressed the need for NITEL workers to be up and doing to meet the challenges posed by the presence of MTN and ECONET, noted "We must wake up and make customer satisfaction our focus.

Hajia Aliu said that Pentascope could be out of NITEL after the three period and added "it is a management contractor and if after three years, it was discovered that Nigerian managers are as good as Pentascope people, the contract might not be renewed:" I think you should use this development as a learning opportunity and not to resign because of Pentascope".
