ETHIOPIA’S ETC SIGNS DEAL FOR ADDITIONAL 200,000 MOBILE PHONE LINES
The Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation signed a new 258 million birr deal with the ZTE Corporation of China for the procurement of new mobile phone lines.The deal was made by ETC to procure 200,000 new mobile phone lines for Addis Ababa and 12 major regional towns in Ethiopia. The deal took place after the ZTE Corporation won out of five other companies the bid that was officially launched in October 2001.
The instalment of the new telephone lines will be finished in three phases. On the first phase, that will take five months 50,000 lines will be available for sell. On the second phase that is, 3 months after the first phase, will see the procurement of 35,000 lines for regional states and 100,000 lines for Addis Ababa. The last phase, which will be at the end of the 12th month (4 months after the second phase), will see Addis Ababa and the regional towns with 200,000 mobile phone lines.
