Researched over a four year period, this new report is probably the most detailed description yet of online behavior in Sub-Saharan Africa. It identifies how extensive online behavior really is and tackles three key questions:

  1. How many data subscribers are actually using data and at what level?
  2. How many people are paying what for online products?
  3. What they’re doing in terms of online behavior (content and service preferences)

With over 1,000 data points, many from completely new sources, it allows all those involved in the digital ecosystem – whether mobile operators, ISPs, media and broadcast companies or digital content and service companies – to understand overall patterns of behavior across the continent and in 11 of the largest digital markets. The overview covers: the Main Platforms Used and Advertising revenues; Social Media Platforms; Voice and Messaging Services; Media Platforms; Audio–Visual Service; Music Services; Payment and e-commerce Services; and Other Digital Services (including online games, sharing sites; taxi hailing services, classifieds; and e-publishing).

The 11 digital markets covered are: Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Ethiopia, Cote d’Ivoire, Angola, Senegal, Cameroon and Uganda. The report contains country market profiles for each country that provides: a summary table of key statistics; an Overview; Data Use and Devices Used; Social Media Platforms; Voice and Messaging Services; Media; Audio-Visual Services; Music Services; Payment Services and e-Commerce; and Other Digital Content and Services.
